Bancroft Capital Honors Veterans Day
Posted: November 8, 2024
The cherished lineage of Veterans Day goes back to the close of World War I, a terrible war with about 53,000 U.S. killed in action and over 63,000 U.S. non-combat related deaths in only six months. In 1918, fighting stopped on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, signifying “Armistice Day.” Afterward, several statements by U.S. Presidents and Congress heralded Armistice Day to remember those that served in World War I. Over time, the holiday evolved to remember and celebrate all U.S. veterans. On May 26, 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a law that the holiday will be known as “Veterans Day” and cemented that this special day was to honor all veterans, appropriately keeping the 11th of November as the date for remembering.
Today, it is estimated that there about 16 million living U.S. veterans accounting for about six percent of our population. Of special note, only one percent of the 16 million that served in World War II are still with us, though all remain with us in spirit. This thought extends to all that have served from every era and generation.
Please join Bancroft Capital in remembering all veterans for their commitment to defend this great nation and for their many sacrifices, to include the many that gave all!
