Part 1: Meeting Veterans Where They Are

Posted: December 3, 2020

In honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd), Bancroft Capital is launching a three-part series shedding light on the importance of restoring veterans with disabilities to their rightful place of leadership in society.

One of the paramount features of the Bancroft Capital mission is our cornerstone Veteran Training Program and our commitment to shifting the focus from providing “jobs for veterans” to “careers for veterans”. But much of what we do to assist military members transitioning to the corporate world begins well before veterans step foot into the Bancroft office. First up – Part 1: Meeting Veterans Where They Are.

Outreach & Partnership with Rehabilitation Hospitals

The Bancroft team meets veterans early, in the hospitals before they transition fully into civilian life.

“My interaction with the recovery hospitals started in 2010 and since that time I have been connected with the operators of both Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital,” shares Navy Veteran and Bancroft Founder & CEO, Cal Quinn.

“Over the years, I have taught curriculums on everything from resume building to networking but the most re-occurring class has been a two-hour transition seminar in which I run them through a roll play (investment banking transaction, Bulldog Gym Equipment) and a virtual trading game (NYSE style auction/outcry market).”

Throughout the year, Bancroft also participates in Ft. Belvoir’s Career and Education events, providing guidance, advice, job opportunities and a listening ear to attendees preparing for their civilian lives. As the only non-government, for-profit business in attendance, our team is honored to provide insight into private sector employment possibilities for soldiers in transition.

Additionally, Ft. Belvoir is in the process of sponsoring Bancroft as a Career Skills Program certified company. Once official, this will allow us direct access to service members outside of the recovery hospitals who would have otherwise been unmet by a firm like ours.

Introduction of 500+ Interested Employers

Our team is committed to facilitating a smooth transition from military life into the corporate world for as many service members as possible – either with Bancroft Capital or at any of the partner firms who have indicated an interest in hiring veterans.

Bancroft has developed a network of 500+ interested employers with whom we are able to connect veterans during our outreach at rehabilitation hospitals. These partner companies are interested in offering career opportunities and range in size, geographic position, and industry.

Bancroft’s ultimate goal is to help restore and in the community to their rightful place of leadership in the civilian sector. The rehabilitation hospitals are a living manifestation of the message we try to convey to these service members – the limits of their opportunity far exceed even their own imagination.
